Can't run UEX Beta on Debian 12

I used UE on Linux many years ago. I decided to try the new beta:

/uex: error while loading shared libraries: libjpeg.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Beta testers should report issues to UltraEdit support by email and do not ask users in the user to user forums for help. Most users do not have access to beta versions at all. See also the Unix Stack Exchange question Why is libjpeg.so.8 missing from Debian? Hint: The used Linux distribution (Debian, Red Hat, Fedora, Ubuntu, etc.) and the used version of the Linux distribution are always very important on reporting an issue or asking for help.
