can ultraedit set maximum line number width?

for example, if set maximum line number width as 8, line numbers will be as follows:
    00000002
    00000023
    00000188
    00000234
    00001234
    .....
    12345678

i think this is better than current line number displaying.....

No, that's not possible. If your file has so many lines (several thousands) you should disable Display Line Numbers in the view menu and look on the line number in the status bar of the UltraEdit window. I you often work with so large files, I would even suggest to disable line counting completely to increase performance - see Disable Line Numbers at Configuration - Editor Display - Miscellaneous.

line number width can't be fixed?

        Aug 01, 2006#3

        Hi,

I just found that line number width can't be fixed. When I open a text file wich has 5000 lines, first the line number width is 3, after I scroll down it, its line number width is changed to 4.

Can line number width be fixed?

          Sorry, but I think, NO!

Write a feature request email to IDM support for a minimum line number width in digits.

It doesn't affect editing by column. Only the appearance on the screen is affected.

No need to do anything here in my opinion.
When I scroll around, width changes at about line 400-600.
Since the whole "working-screen" is switched 1 char to the right, it doesn't disturb me in editing.
It is just a correct compromise for trying to keep the number of columns for displaying line numbers as low as possible.
(or does anybody like to waste so much room for line no. 1 looking like this:
0000000001 this is line 1 *lol*
