    Hi All!

I have a question regarding the Editor that have multiple files open (i.e more than 20 files). As they are open, we can navigate to each of them buy clicking the file name icon.

For example, we have the following files open in our editor:

    FILE-1.TXT, FILE-2.TXT, FILE-3.TXT, FILE-4.TXT
    FILE-5.TXT, FILE-5.TXT, FILE-6.TXT, FILE-7.TXT
    FILE-8.TXT, FILE-9.TXT, FILE-10.TXT, FILE-11.TXT
    FILE-12.TXT, FILE-13.TXT, FILE-14.TXT, FILE-15.TXT
    FILE-16.TXT, FILE-17.TXT, FILE-18.TXT, FILE-19.TXT
    FILE-20.TXT, FILE-21.TXT, FILE-22.TXT

As I click an open file that I want to modify/append, the file name icon will go down near the editor pad. It means that each time I click any open file( i.e. FILE-8.TXT) icon, it will go near the editor pad which means the order of the files are not arrange to the way I used to and it is hard for me to locate the file/s that I need to update or look at.

Is there any settings that the file name icon stays on their position even though I click the other open file/s.

I hope I explain my question well and if not, please let me know.

    regards,

    Alvin

      Hi alvin,

I see, but I think it is not possible. Help file writes nothing helpful here.
I suggest you write an email to support.

If you use the Windows menu and then click Windows, the files are listed there in alphabetical order. Or you can order the file tabs so that the files are in alphabetical order from left to right.

        Hope this helps.

What you described here is the Arrange Icons feature of Windows which is automatically executed on every document minimize and you can also execute manually in the window menu - see also About the Multiple Document Interface.

I'm not a Windows programmer so I don't know, if this Windows feature can be turned off for document minimizing. Currently I can't find an option in UltraEdit to change this icon handling. Ask IDM support by email.

As workaround you could use the Window menu in UltraEdit with option Old Style Window List set at Configuration - Application Layout - Advanced or you use the Open File Tabs which can be opened/closed in View - Views/Lists. Read the article about Open File Tabs in help of UltraEdit. Last you could also use the File Tree View from View - Views/Lists and select the Open tab which helps also to switch fast to a document.
Best regards from an UC/UE/UES for Windows user from Austria

            Thanks Guys.

It helps me to explore the Editor (UltraEdit) of what you have advised me. Most of them are appreciated.

What I am going to do is to email IDM to get more information from them.

I will let you know as soon I get information from them.

            Cheers,

            Alvin
