- If anyone else has run into this, I got a solution from tech support: I suspect the issue is that this ignore option is as a global default, but is not carried over to the session. With the folder compare session open and active, please go to Session -> Session Properties and make sure that "*svn" i...Posted in Folder Compare and Merge

- I need to do some work on branches of a subversion repository and am delighted to be getting great value out of UltraEdit. I just have one niggle; I can't seem to get folder ignore to work. In Options | Configuration | Ignore Options | Folder | Ignore folders/file types , I have entered .svn (as wel...Posted in Folder Compare and Merge

- I think we will never see enhancements like support for variables for macros because scripts can be used for complex tasks... Do you reckon then that being able to suppress the cancel dialog would make scripts suitable for key commands like this in future, or are there other challenges too?Posted in Macros

- In the Semware editor TSE there was a macro which I liked a great deal, which copied the character in the line above the cursor to the insert point. The SAL macro code - for the Mofi's of the world who understand SAL - goes like this: integer proc mCopyCharAbove() integer c,sv = Set(RemoveTrailingWh...Posted in Macros

- As an external diff tool, UC is very nice indeed when there are lots of differences to compare. It does mean replacing Cygwin's CVS with CVSNT and changing the protocol in CVS Root entries from :extssh: to :ssh:, but that's OK with me. I expect it will be a similar deal with SVN, which, superior tho...Posted in UltraCompare General Discussion

- Oh right... they all seem to have external difftool support. I'll pick through the thread at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/780425/how-do-i-setup-diffmerge-with-msysgit-gitk/783667#783667 for git and dig through the CVSNT documentation or perhaps revisit using WinCVS. Unfortunately I need all th...Posted in UltraCompare General Discussion

- I'd love it if I could do something like this: git diff myfile.cpp | uc Of course that doesn't work, but I was wondering if UC/UE have a way to make use of a diff from SCM software and put it into the context of the local file. i.e. indicate how the copy in the repository differs from the local copy...Posted in UltraCompare General Discussion

- Scripts can much more than macros, but there are some things which cannot be done with scripts... This is a great response, which really ought to be in the UltraEdit help file as a FAQ for newbies like me. UltraEdit clearly has a lot of history and there are clever things which were done with macro...Posted in Scripts

- Thanks for the swift response, Mofi. UTF-8 - NO BOM in the Save As dialog, NOT format UTF-8. Aha! That was my error. :) With these options a DOS file is not converted to UNIX....I reported this issue on 14th Jan. 2010 by email to IDM support and got a confirmation for this bug. Excellent, I shan't r...Posted in UEX General Discussion

- I'm experimenting with changing my modus operandi with UltraEdit. Forgive me, if I subject you to a bit of background before I comment about the slow scroll on Linux. I'm a die-hard Semware Editor (a Win32) user, and for a long time I've enjoyed the responsiveness of that editor, and the fact that i...Posted in UEX General Discussion
