A more generic version may be: search string - "^(.{11}).(.{6}).(.{11}).(.{10})." replace string - "\1_\2_\3_\4_" That works no matter whether the character at the given positions is space.

Thanks Mofi very much for the macro. It runs well as after I press the shortcut key the consecutive // comment lines now becomes --- Lines Are Hidden --- One other problem is when I press the shorcut again, the display does not expand to the original unfolded state.
