- I wonder if the "Read-only" setting for the file might help? The OP can maybe try opening the file as "Read-only" (in the File/Open dialog click the down-arrow on the "Open" button to choose "Open as read-only", use the "Edit/Read-only" menu item, or click on the "R/W"/"R/O" gizmo in the status bar...Posted in UEStudio General Discussion

- I think the configuration dialog at "File handling | Encoding" should allow you to specify the default encoding to be UTF-8.Posted in Configuration/INI Settings

- For me the 'modified' indicator is not only red, it's a diamond shape. The 'saved' indicator is a green circle (a never modified file has no indicator at all). So even without color these states can be distinguished. If the diamond vs. circle isn't distinctive enough of a difference, perhaps IDM can...Posted in Editor Display

- Just as an FYI to anyone else who comes across this problem - it's still in v17.00.0.15 and has been reported to IDM. However, I encourage anyone who's running into it to also report it. I was hoping that his would be fixed in 17.0 but made the mistake of never reporting it myself, assuming that it ...Posted in UEStudio General Discussion

- This time I actually played around with the dialog for that help page. It looks like UE uses the term "chord" for an action that is invoked by two "hotkeys" instead of one. The help for "Key mapping (Configuration)" says this: Chords Users may use both text fields under Press new (multi-)key to defi...Posted in Configuration/INI Settings

- "Chord" for PC keyboards simply means pressing several keys at once for a particular action - such as Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-S. I'm sure the origin is from musical keyboards where you press several keys simultaneously to create a musical chord as you mention. Most of the time the term I see used for t...Posted in Configuration/INI Settings

- > the old FreeCommander 2009.02b does still not show UltraEdit in the context menu, but the newer FreeCommanderXE 64-bit does This might be an issue about the extension not being configured in the 32-bit registry properly. You might want to contact IDM support, as I think it might be fixable. I have...Posted in Configuration/INI Settings

- If you haven't already, you might want to send this information to IDM support and see if they have anything to say. It seems they might have a decent chance of knowing (or finding out) what's going on between those two events.Posted in UltraEdit General Discussion

- FWIW, I just ran into this "files you're comparing exceed the available memory" problem trying to compare two small files (about 70 lines/2KB each) using: - UES x64 v16.20.0.6 - UC Lite x64 v16.00.0.27 and found that a a restart of the computer solved the problem for me, too. No idea what the root i...Posted in Text Compare and Merge

- A tool such as the Sysinternals Process Monitor might give information about what is responsible for the slowdown: If it's some sort of unnecessary network access you might be able to fix the problem yourself. If it's something that requires IDM's attention a log from that tool might be useful to th...Posted in UltraEdit General Discussion

- Does UEX run using `sudo` when you're a non-root user? That works for me. I understand that's a little bit different scenario, but it might give a clue about what's happening especially if sudo doesn't work for you. When I run UEX 16.1.0.17 with sudo, the title bar displays "*** Admin Instance ***" ...Posted in Configuration/INI Settings

- FWIW (I'm not sure any of this will be of much help): UEX 16.1 does look for various *.ue-theme files in ~/.idm/uex/DefaultThemeFiles/ (I determined this by looking at strace output for UEX), but on my system that directory is empty. There is another empty theme related directory: ~/.idm/uex/CustomT...Posted in UEX General Discussion

- From looking at what changes in my ~/.idm directory when I open UEx, resize the window, and exit, it looks like the window position is stored in one of the following items of the "~/.idm/uex/uex.conf_vol" file's "[Settings]" section: - State= - FramesPerspectiveNew= There are both a uex.conf and a u...Posted in UEX General Discussion
