In UltraEdit for Windows version 10.20d, which I am using, the output window text matches the size of the working windows. Go to View - Set Font menu item and you can pick the size.

I have seen this on my setup also. It appears that if the last file that was opened comes from a directory different than the one that holds the .prj file, the path is shown in the project menu.
