    Hi Folks,

We are very pleased to announce the release of v12.00 of UltraEdit-32. We think this release has several exciting new features that will be particularly of interest to long-time users. We have a lot more planned for the future and are already looking at the next release.

I think this is a dot increment, not a major improvement to warrant a new full revision.
IDM, you really have a captive audience here but don't take us for granted or think we'll upgrade just to have the latest number.

I bought an unlimited upgrades license for v11.

I've tried entering the details provided for v12 and registration is failing.

I'm beginning to think the unlimited upgrades applies to v11 only. Would this be correct????

Update: My mistake, at start of installation it says a new registration code is required. Quick eMail to IDM and new code came along very quickly. :D

          No, their mistake (IDMs)...

I got hit by that too...

The question should have been made more prominent and the explanation clearer...

"ALL non v12 codes WILL NOT WORK! You will need to obtain a new code. Do you have a v12 code?"

I'm so much into goal oriented UI design these days...

This is a "wow" feature! I've been asking for something like this for almost 3 years now...thank you very much!

Though, after a few tests I see a problem, the normal backup will save the file before the changes were made (aka original file), but version backup will save the file in current state, meaning if you edited a file, and save it, it will save version with your changes, not the original file....perhaps it was the idea behind that feature, but IMO the version backup should be exactly the same as the normal backup...otherwise what is the point have two files (the one that was saved and the version backup) with the identical content?

V@no, you are right. After first save the *.bak file has the initial file content of the current editing session and the first version backup is identical with the saved file.

But after second save the *.bak file has the content of the first version backup file and the second version backup file is identical with the saved file. The original content is not saved anymore in any backup file. This is not correct because the original content before first save is lost.

The version backups should really save the file content of last save (create a copy of current file before saving the new content) and not the actual save. So the *.bak file and the last version backup file has always the same content, but the first version backup file then has the original file content at opening the file.

Well, better would be to rename current *.bak file to next version backup file and save the current file content as *.bak file before overwritting the original file. This would automatically produce:

first version file = initial content
second version file = first saved content
third version file = second saved content
*.bak file = last saved content

Please report this issue by email to IDM support.
