    in itunes you have the possibility to export the playlist as txt file
    in the format

    its not good to delete two different files with the same song, but good if you
    have the same file in a list, for example when you merge some playlist in the
    program, but ue screw up the playlist

    i was thinking in the sort preferences, the setting has to be 1 and -1
    but with this setting ue makes some errors
    sorry i install it in a different language and the program don't
    install the english help file and its not possible to change the
    program to english so I'm not sure what the exact name of the function is


    anyway i hope you understand what i mean
    i count the numbers of tags in a line

    so i try the setting 1 and 25
    so it worked a little bit more but for example the lines

    don't work

    i try also 0 and 25 as settings in key 1 (the other key are all 0 0)
    but that doesn't work either, even so 0 0

    any idea what i made wrong and with what setting that will work for
    all songs?

      The playlists seem to be CSV files with the tab as separator. A sort with Key 1 - Start Column set to 1 and End Column set to -1 and all other set to 0 should work.

      Maybe you have to use first Format - Trim Trailing Spaces before sort.

      If the fields are not separated by a tab character but with spaces run a regular expression in UltraEdit style with search string "  +" (without " - space space plus) and replace it with ^t. This regular expression will replace more than 1 spaces to a single tab character. Now the sort should work.

        as you mentioned 1 and -1 works for most cases

        but i have some files in it whiteout artist name and this seem to be a
        problem - it seems as itunes then simply cancel the first part and
        that so there are less tabs in a line as in the rest, maybe that is
        the reason which leads ue to the errors


        i can live with it, but maybe you have an idea what i can do

        the first has an artist an album the following are incomplete
        the simpler way would be just to insert some nonsense in the file with
        no artist and so it would be work. so there is no need to stick deeper
        in this, but just in case that you have i idea, it would be glad to hear
        it :)

        hmm when i think about it, the only way that would work is to make a
        macro which made the sort, but only uses the last part of the line
        with the path in it.
        but that seems a little to much work, maybe an easier way is just to
        search and replace all but the last word with nothing (as regular expression)
        and so there would be only the file path left - its then not more the itunes
        playlist but maybe as m3u it would work...

          Well, your idea with the sort based on only the filename with path can be done with a macro. With a regular expression the filename with path is moved to start of the line. Then the sort is executed and last the filename with path is moved back to the end of the line. The sort below does recognize differences in case. Add sort option IgnoreCase if you want to ignore differences in case.

          Top
          Find RegExp "%^(*^)^t^([A-Z]:[~^t^r^n]+^)$"
          Replace All "^2^t^1"
          SortAsc RemoveDup 1 -1 0 0 0 0 0 0
          Find RegExp "%^([~^t]+^)^t^(*^)$"
          Replace All "^2^t^1"

          If you do not use UltraEdit style regular expressions by default, add UnixReOn or PerlReOn (v12+ of UE) at the end of the macro. UnixReOff modifies the configuration setting for regular expressions.

            wow thanks works like a charm!!!

            you safe me a lot of time, i was still in the beginning of figuring out how to make the regular expression, when you already gave this more
            elegant and sophisticated solution

            well at least now i know that UE-32 v12 can also use pearl expression when you mention to write PerlReOn my unix scripting was very rusty, but i think i have to learn the basics of pearl scripting :)
            so thanks a lot, now i have something to do ;)
