SSH Key Agent in 2024.1 not working

    Hi!

I've just installed UEStudio 2024.1 and tried the announced new feature in beta - using key agents for login to SSH and FTP.
I'm running KeePass and plugin KeyAgent, both work perfectly well with Windows Terminal and the SSH keys are requested each time I'm logging into the Linux firewall.

I've set up SSH in UE, without any password and w/o any user name and expected UE to request the key from KeePass. Unfortunately nothing happens.
I did not find any documentation on how to set up SSH keys (key agent) within UE so far. Does anyone get this running so far?

The UEStudio latest changes page lists for UEStudio 2024.0:
      • Updated SSH/Telnet dockable window :
        • Latest encryption standards
        • Support for key agents
The blog page UltraEdit 2024.0 release post has the chapter Updated standards for dockable window for SSH/Telnet with more information about key agent support.

But you are right that neither the help installed with UE/UES nor the UltraEdit Wiki nor any power tip describes how to use a key agent.

Well, it is unfortunately more or less standard for software producing companies all over the world that the documentations of applications are at least two or three versions behind. A documentation (in all supported languages) for a new feature can be written most often only after the release of the latest version of an application (in all supported languages) with the new feature. The release of an application is never halted until the documentation is up to date too. New features are often documented in detail only if users request a detailed documentation of a feature. There are some exceptions. Very large software producing companies with billions of dollars of profit each year have enough money to pay people for writing good documentations for their purchased applications.

Further, most (nearly all in my experience) application users never read an application documentation/help/manual. I am a rare exception as the first I always do after the installation of an application is viewing and configuring all settings which of course requires often reading about the settings, looking on all commands in ribbons, menus, toolbar, context menus and yes, also reading the documentation/help/manual which of course takes hours. That is the main reason why I have less applications installed than all my colleagues and work with the fewer applications much more efficient than my colleagues because of having the applications configured to my needs and knowing their features and how to use them for efficient work.

However, I do not use the SSH / telnet feature of UE/UES as I do not use SSH / telnet at all. I cannot help for that reason with something better than the suggestion contacting the technical support of UltraEdit, Inc. with an email – click in UEStudio on Support on top right corner on using the ribbon mode or open the menu Help on using one of the two toolbar/menu modes and click on Start support request – or using the form on the technical support page. It would be good to request a power tip or the enhancement of one of the existing power tips about SSH console usage and the enhancement of the help of UE/UES and the UltraEdit Wiki with information about how to use a key agent.
Best regards from an UC/UE/UES for Windows user from Austria
