I have tried ultraedit 12.10b to see whether it has fixed some bugs in pre versions. As a result, I was disappointed to found it not only doesn't fix old bugs in ultracompare options but also has a new bug.
ultracompare will crash in binary mode and is reported "memory could not be read" !
Please write a bug report email to IDM support with as many details as possible, maybe also with 2 example files. This is an user-to-user forum. I have just downloaded the zip-file of the new version and will also look into the problem although this means again for me to temporarily disable UltraCompare Professional.
Today I have tested it and the bug is confirmed by me and also already by IDM. UltraCompare Lite v4.10 released with UltraEdit v12.10b is not capable to compare files in fast binary mode because it immediately crashes (I guess a missing resource or code part in the Lite version).
UltraCompare Professional v4.10 does not have this problem and also UCL v4.00a which is in the installation packages of UEStudio 6.00 and UltraEdit v12.10a does not have this problem.
Here is the answering email from IDM support which I have received exactly 30 minutes after sending the bug report email.
Hello Mofi,
Thanks for your message. I have logged this issue in our database.
I can send the user the UltraCompare lite 4.00a as a zipped attachment if they would like.
Thanks, Andy
yzkzero, looks like you have not reported it to IDM. As a registered user which you hopefully are, you have the right to contact the IDM support and you will get it without any additional costs.
Re: UltraCompare Lite in UltraEdit 12.10b will crash !
The IDM developers have already fixed this bug. The new installation packages of UEStudio 6.00a and UltraEdit v12.10b available since 13 Sep 2006 contains UltraCompare Lite v4.10a which is again capable of comparing binary files in fast binary mode. The new UCL version also remembers the last used mode in the registry.
Note: UEStudio and UltraEdit are not modified in the new installation packages and so the parameters from the Compare Files dialog are still not correct passed to UCL.
Edited on 2006-11-09: The problem with the not working parameter and options passing to UCL is fixed with UCL v4.10a+1 and UE v12.20a+2 and UES v6.10a+2.
