My laptop has been swapped-out for a new one. I am using UltraEdit 10.10b. How do I move my toolbar customizations from the old laptop to the new one? I have copied c:\windows\uedit32.ini to the new one and have exported and imported the registry HKCU\Software\IDM Computer solutions\ branch. My toolbar customizations still do not show up.

If your toolbar configuration is saved really in the registry (default for v10.xx) then you should first delete the existing HKCU\Software\IDM Computer solutions\ branch on the new computer before importing the settings from the old computer or you will merge the settings and not replace it and so your toolbar is not looking as on the old computer.

If your toolbar configuration is saved in the uedit32.ini (is also possible with some advanced settings) make sure that the copied uedit32.ini in the windows directory is the only uedit32.ini on the new computer.

UltraEdit toolbar customization problem with v10.10

          Apr 30, 2007#4

          Hello all,
I got an odd problem with UltraEdit, I can't customize my toolbar to the one I prefer.

I try to drop and drag the existing command to the toolbar but it doesn't work.

I am running the prog through an ftp connection (at work). Is it possible that this is the issue?
I can't install a thing on my computer, but can I try to redirect my preferences to my desktop? (uedit32.ini, etc.)

I am searching since a while now, I hope you can help me.

          My version UltraEdit-32 is 10.10.

          Johan

Re: UltraEdit toolbar customization problem with v10.10

By default for v10.10 the toolbar configuration is stored in the registry as written above and you should have write access to it (current user key).

But if on the General configuration tab near the bottom the option Enable old style (pre-v9) toolbars and menus (quicker load times and more compatible with some screen readers is checked, than the toolbar configuration is stored in uedit32.ini and you have to use the Toolbar tab in the configuration dialog to modify it.

To use a local uedit32.ini (and other configuration files like uedit32.kbd) create in the user environment the environment variable UEINIDIR with the full directory path where you want the UltraEdit configuration files or use the command line option /i="path to ini\uedi32.ini" at the shortcut. The command line option will not work when you open a file with UltraEdit by double clicking on the file, if you not modify the command line for this file association too. So the environment variable is the better solution for you.

For more details read in help of UltraEdit the page INI File Selection and Advanced Settings.
