After the KB066835 (26100.6899) and KB5066131 and KB5064401 were installed yesterday, UEdit 23.00.0.56 (64 bit) does not start any more.
It stucks in Task Manager as a background process with 8% to 9% CPU util.
Even after hours this does not change and get loaded as a UI application.
Killed the UEdit instances (each time you try to start it creates a new instance)
Renamed "C:\Users\<USERID>\AppData\Roaming\IDMComp\UltraEdit\uedit64.ini" to "uedit64.ini.bak": same story.
Renamed "C:\Users\<USERID>\AppData\Roaming\IDMComp" to "C:\Users\<USERID>\AppData\Roaming\IDMComp_bak": same story.
Uninstalled UEdit, re-installed: same story.
After hours of hassling with this, switched to Notepad++ and already got quite happy with that.
- It loads much faster (even with e.g. 14 files to be auto-loaded from previous session),
- it remembers and loads unsafed files
- as there was no toolbar button to toggle to block-mode I quickly found a menu entry that tells me how block-mode can be started, e.g. with ALT+left-Mouse-button
(wow: after so many years having UEdit, Notepad++ needs to tell me how this can be done - on another computer I find that UEdit supports the same combination for that - and yes: UEdit menu tells us to use "ALT+C")
However, UEdit is still a champion to handle large files!
