After the KB066835 (26100.6899) and KB5066131 and KB5064401 were installed yesterday, UEdit 23.00.0.56 (64 bit) does not start any more.
It stucks in Task Manager as a background process with 8% to 9% CPU util.
Even after hours this does not change and get loaded as a UI application.
Killed the UEdit instances (each time you try to start it creates a new instance)
Renamed "C:\Users\<USERID>\AppData\Roaming\IDMComp\UltraEdit\uedit64.ini" to "uedit64.ini.bak": same story.
Renamed "C:\Users\<USERID>\AppData\Roaming\IDMComp" to "C:\Users\<USERID>\AppData\Roaming\IDMComp_bak": same story.
Uninstalled UEdit, re-installed: same story.

After hours of hassling with this, switched to Notepad++ and already got quite happy with that.
- It loads much faster (even with e.g. 14 files to be auto-loaded from previous session),
- it remembers and loads unsafed files
- as there was no toolbar button to toggle to block-mode I quickly found a menu entry that tells me how block-mode can be started, e.g. with ALT+left-Mouse-button
(wow: after so many years having UEdit, Notepad++ needs to tell me how this can be done - on another computer I find that UEdit supports the same combination for that - and yes: UEdit menu tells us to use "ALT+C")
However, UEdit is still a champion to handle large files!

Did you try renaming the entire directory %APPDATA%\IDMComp\UltraEdit to UltraEdit_Backup while no UltraEdit instance was running in foreground or background and started next UltraEdit which creates the entire application data directory %APPDATA%\IDMComp\UltraEdit new with using the default settings and showing the welcome window?

If that process with recreating the entire application data directory of UltraEdit new works and UltraEdit starts as usual, use the welcome window to do the basic workspace configuration, then close this window, open Advanced - Settings or Configuration and reconfigure UltraEdit according to your needs. UltraEdit 23.00.0.56 is more than 9.5 years old. There have been lots of features added in the last 9.5 years including an automatic file session management making it possible to keep even unsaved (unnamed) files between editing sessions like in Notepad++, faster reloading even more than 50 files on startup of UltraEdit and more features to even better handle large files without the need to change the configuration for small files. There have been made also other improvements like reducing the startup time.

You could backup the UltraEdit application data directory, uninstall version 23.00.0.56, install the currently latest version 2025.1.0.20 (32.1.0.20 in former version numbering scheme), use it in fully functional evaluation version for several days to get a little bit familiar with all the new features including those missing by you in UE v23.00.0.56 available in the meantime also in UltraEdit. If you like all the new features in UltraEdit, you could purchase the license for it. If you think that all the new features are not worth the money for the license, you could uninstall UltraEdit 2025.1.0.20 with the deletion of the entire application data directory during the uninstall, restart Windows to finish the uninstall process (shell extension DLLs cannot be deleted on being currently loaded by the Windows shell, i.e. running Windows File Explorer requiring a restart of Windows to delete them too), install again 23.00.0.56 for which you have a license and restore from the backup the application data directory of UE v23.00.0.56.

Let us now here in the user-to-user forums on which features you would be specifically interested in and we could help with appropriate information like links to power tips, blogs, tutorials, videos or webinars showing how to use the new features you are interested in.

By the way: There is in the program files directory of UltraEdit also the file changes.txt with information of the most important added features and fixes.
