I want to look at two different sections of a very large file concurrently via vertical split.

If I use the cursor (or Ctrl+Up/Down or PageUp/PageDown) to scroll one side, then fine, it scrolls independently.

If I click the up and down scrolling arrows, each side scrolls together, relative to the position they were already in. Annoying, since I don't want one of the sides to move, but I can deal with it.

If I drag the scrollbar however, the two sides sync to the same place, losing my spot on one side.

How can I make it so that I have two independent scrollbars, or at least keep one side static?

Unfortunately this vertical scrollbar behaviour is intended. You can try a workaround:

• menu Window / Duplicate Window
• drag the duplicated file tab on canvas (the edit area), see power tip Drag-N-Drop Split Pane Editing... Vertical/Horizontal Split Window

I don't know your configuration details but I think that it will be usable for you.
