Is there anyway to change fonts (bold, or italic, etc.) for selected text or words within a text.
No, only the color and the background color for Selected Text can be specified at View - Set Colors (UE for Windows prior v20.00), but not the font and the style. In UltraEdit for Windows v20.00 and later those colors can be specified at View - Themes - Manage Themes on tab Editor.
You can use syntax highlighting where you can specify styles like bold and italic for various groups of words (strings, comments, numbers, color/word group 1 - 8, ...). But you need a fixed pitch font - see Monospaced vs Fixed Pitch fonts.
A font setting based on the extension of a file can be specified at Advanced - Configuration - Editor - Word Wrap/Tab Settings as explained in topic different font depending on file extension.
