    Hello
I am running UE 12.10 as non-admin user. When I change font in editor this change is not saved, and the next time it's again Courier. Also, 'Setting this may improve..' option is not saved, and the 'Recent Files' list is wrong.
I am running Win XP 64 bit, and I installed UE using administrator account.

    Thanks, Tom

Sounds like you don't have write permission to the INI uedit32.ini. Search for it and check if the read-only attribute is not set on it and there are also no NTFS permissions which disallows UE to write into it. See in help of UltraEdit the article INI File Selection and Advanced Settings where the INI file can be located. By default it is %APPDATA%\IdmComp\UltraEdit which means you should have 2 uedit32.ini on your computer because %APPDATA% is an environment variable which depends on the current user and so you should have one for the admin account and one for the restricted user account. See also UltraEdit isnt opening.....
Best regards from an UC/UE/UES for Windows user from Austria

        Thanks for the reply

Hmm, no. I have full permissions, and I am also the owner. Also, I deleted the UltraEdit directory from the APPDATA directory, and after I reopened UE, the Ultraedit directory was created again, but only 'project.lst' file was created, even after I tried to change some settings in UE.

What is even more weird is that, before I deleted %APPDATA%\IDMComp\UltraEdit directory, the font set in the .INI file was 'Consolas' (which I set using admin accnt), but UE showed everything in Courier.

        Thanks, Tom

And where is now the uedit32.* and *.mfg, *.tfg and *.pfg files after deleting it?

The project.lst is always created in %APPDATA%\IDMComp\UltraEdit. But it looks like UE is using a different INI. The current version 12.10a does not show anywhere which INI is used. The next version will have this feature. You can read in help of UE in the topic INI File Selection and Advanced Settings where UltraEdit is searching for an INI. Check the possible locations and the shortcut.

If you can't find the INI which is used by UltraEdit, you have to download Filemon from Sysinternals, unpack the zip-file, run the Filemon.exe and log every disk access while starting UltraEdit to find out what's going wrong. You could set the Include filter of Filemon to uedit32 before starting UltraEdit to log only UltraEdit disk accesses.

Also check if you have not enabled Use Registry for settings (not INI file) at Configuration - Application Layout - Advanced.

            Thanks!

It was using .ini file from my old profile directory, left on the disk after reinstalling Windows. So, I deleted this directory and now everything works fine.

And, thanks for pointing me to Filemon. Great utility, too bad I don't use it enough :)

            Cheers from Croatia, Tom
