Hi, I'm a LONG time UEStudio user on Windows, and recently bought a MacBook and updated my license to UltraEdit so that I could continue using UE on the Mac (there is no UES for Mac). I'm finding in the versioning, as well as the number of discussion groups on the forum for Mac, that it's not quite as mature as for Windows. I have synced my settings from UES (win) to UE (win) and want to restore those to my UE on Mac, but to be honest, I can't find anywhere to backup/restore settings in the menus. Is it even possible? Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I do not have a Mac computer and do not use UltraEdit for Mac for that reason.

The feature backup/restore user customizations is most likely not available at all in UltraEdit for Mac if you cannot find it in any menu. This feature is also for UltraEdit for Windows just for backup/restore user customizations of same version of UltraEdit on same or a different Windows computer. I am quite sure from what I know about backup/restore user customizations that it will not work to transfer user customizations between UltraEdit running on different platforms (operating systems) or from UEStudio on Windows to UltraEdit on Mac/Linux.

You should be able to manually synchronize most user customizations by compressing on Windows the UEStudio application data folder %APPDATA%\IDMComp\UEStudio into a ZIP file, copy that ZIP file to the Mac, extract it there in a temporary folder and compare the extracted folders and files with the folders and files in ~/Library/Application Support/UltraEdit.

Note 1: The directory referenced with %APPDATA% is hidden by Windows default. Select %APPDATA%\IDMComp\ in the browser window and copy it with Ctrl+C to the clipboard. Click into the address bar of Windows File Explorer, paste the path with Ctrl+V and hit key RETURN or key ENTER to open the folder containing the application data folder of UEStudio.

Note 2: The directory referenced with ~/Library/ is hidden by Mac default. See the instructions at How to restore position of File Tree View in UltraEdit on Mac? how to open the folder in Finder of Mac OS.

Thanks Mofi, that was the conclusion I was slowly arriving at. I ended up basically doing the same comparison of files, and was able to get most things sorted out. My use of UES/UE has always been predominately on one windows machine so I never needed to do any of this. I guess I’m a bit surprised that, given the popularity and age of UE, that these kinds of functions aren’t more advanced. Thanks for the response, info, and confirmation. Cheers.
